REQUIRED EXAMINATIONS
All applicants must submit results of the SAT I: Reasoning Test or the ACT Assessment. In addition, students whose native language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
SAT I or ACT – standardized university entrance examinations that measure verbal and mathematical skills. Because of our admission schedule, the SAT I or ACT should be taken prior to January of the year the student intends to enroll. To receive the SAT I registration bulletin, students should visit www.sat.org. (See a listing of SAT test dates here.) The registration materials for the ACT are available at www.act.org. Please contact the nearest U.S. Embassy for a list of testing centers, their locations, and exam schedule. We advise students to take the SAT or ACT exam at least twice.
TOEFL – a standardized English language proficiency examination. The TOEFL is administered by the College Board. This examination must be taken prior to January of the year the student intends to enroll. The TOEFL Bulletin provides information and registration forms for the test. Copies of the bulletin are usually available throughout the world at U.S. embassies and consulates, binational centers or offices of the U.S. International Communication Agency. Students may learn more about TOEFL/TSE Services at www.toefl.org. Please contact the nearest U.S. Embassy for a list of testing centers, their locations, and exam schedule.
DEADLINES
There are two seasons to which to apply to Notre Dame, Early Action with a deadline of November 1st and Regular Action with a deadline of December 31st. Those students that apply Early Action will be notified of our decision by Christmas and those who apply Regular Action will be notified the first week of April. Please note that applying Early Action does not show more interest in Notre Dame and it is a more selective applicant pool. If you have any questions as to which season to apply, please feel free to contact us.
Applicants seeking international financial aid (non-US Citizens/Permanent Residents) who apply Early Action will automatically be deferred to our Regular Action pool as the International Scholarship Committee does not meet until the first week of March.
Students living abroad may apply through our paper application or online. Mailed documents should be sent by courier service to ensure a timely arrival.

OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS TO ENTER THE UNITED STATES
International students who are admitted to Notre Dame will be sent the Form I-20, the official application for student visa (F-1) status. Click here for visa information.
Before the I-20 can be sent, however, the student must demonstrate sufficient financial support covering all four years of the cost of attendance towards a Notre Dame education. Therefore, it is necessary that proper financial documentation be on file. Students must submit the Certification of Finances along with the International Student Financial Aid Application (where applicable) within their application for admission.
