Housing for Transfers

An integral component of the undergraduate experience for most Notre Dame students is living on-campus in one of our 27 residence halls. So enjoyable is life in the halls that many continuing students opt to return each year rather than seek off-campus living arrangements.

Because of the overwhelming popularity of living in the residence halls, we are often not able to find space to house transfer students on-campus. We do everything we can to offer housing to those confirmed transfer students who wish to live in the residence halls, but much of the time there are not enough rooms.

After admission and official confirmation of intention to enroll with the Undergraduate Admissions Office, transfer students who desire on-campus accommodations should apply online for housing following the instructions in their confirmation packets. A wait list is maintained of students who have completed the online housing application. Information about the waiting list and the procedure for making assignments may be obtained from the Office of Residence Life and Housing. Students exploring transfer to the University of Notre Dame should expect that they will need to live off-campus for at least a semester (perhaps longer) before receiving a residence hall assignment.
