Hidden Secrets: Fitness Classes

As a junior, my free time seems to becoming smaller each semester. I thought I was busy freshman year, but little did I know that my life would be filled with extra-curricular activities that I love. With my schedule almost full, I knew that I needed to find time to work out and have some ‘me’ time. Last semester, I worked out at Rolfs on my own, three times a week. I would run around in circles for 30 minutes, go pick up some weights, and do random ab workouts.

This year, I decided to try out something a little different. I decided to sign up for three of the fitness classes offered through RecSports. I was determined to stay active this semester even though I have a busy schedule.

My first class was Pilates Mat on Mondays. I thought I was decent at Pilates and had some core strength, but I was proven wrong after taking this class . My abs had never been worked so hard and it was only Day 1!

The next class that I signed up for is called 20/20/20, or as I like to call it, the hardest full body workout. This class is composed of 20 minutes of cardio, 20 minutes of sculpting, and 20 minutes of toning. I was exhausted after the first 10 minutes, and I still had another 50 to go. I was so sore that I could barely walk up the stairs without feeling the burn in my thighs.

The last class that I have yet to try out is called Tabata intervals. This class is made up of doing short rapid movements for 20 seconds with a 10 second break. You do this repeatedly with different motions that get your heart racing. I am excited to try out this class because I think it will be a fun quick workout, which fits perfectly into my busy schedule.

Classes like these are the hidden secrets of Notre Dame because most students do not think about signing up for them. However, in my opinion, everyone should! They are not as expensive as I thought they would be, ranging from as low as $25-$60 for more advanced classes, and that covers the WHOLE semester. It’s such a steal! As students, working out becomes something that is often put aside to make time for other things that need to be done; however, if you sign up for any of these intense and fun classes, and look at them as a normal class for school, then working out will never be put aside again.
