Financial Aid Application Procedures for Readmitted Students

The CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE Application and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) serve as the official applications for need-based financial aid, including University scholarship programs.  Unless otherwise noted, additional applications are not required to be considered for all scholarship/grant programs the Office of Financial Aid administers.  A student should not wait for an admission decision before submitting the FAFSA and PROFILE.  Applications for financial aid must be properly filed every year.

In accordance with federal regulations, satisfactory academic progress (SAP) for financial aid applicants will be evaluated at the time of readmission.  Students who do not meet the SAP requirements will be ineligible for financial aid.  Students with mitigating circumstances may submit a letter of appeal requesting reinstatement of financial aid eligibility by following the appeal process outlined on the Financial Aid website.

*Students who wish to be considered for state grant eligibility may have an earlier deadline for the FAFSA (e.g. Indiana residents must file the FAFSA by March 10, 2014). Students should consult with their state department of education regarding published deadlines.

NOTE: If eligible, parents and students are strongly encouraged to use the IRS Data Retrieval option when completing the FAFSA. Choosing to use this option will streamline completion of federal verification requirements and expedite the review of your financial aid applications. Note: Tax data will typically be available from the IRS Data Retrieval Tool 1-2 weeks after filing your federal tax return electronically or 6-8 weeks after filing your paper federal tax return by U.S. Postal Service.

Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC)

The University of Notre Dame participates in the College Board’s Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC) which allows students to submit one packet of supporting documentation to IDOC rather than mailing individual documents to each participating institution to which a student has applied for admission.

CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE applicants will receive communication directly from IDOC regarding the submission of supporting documentation.  Families should be prepared to submit this supporting documentation to IDOC by Notre Dame’s priority IDOC deadline.  Visit our IDOC FAQ for answers to the most common questions from our prospective students.
