HISE is named in honor of Father Theodore Hesburgh, C.S.C. Fr. Hesburgh was a transformational figure in our University’s history, leading it as president from 1952 to 1987. He has also been one of the most respected figures in American and Catholic education, shown in the 150 honorary degrees he has received from various colleges. He has received both the Presidential Medal of Freedom as well as the Congressional Gold medal–the highest civilian honors that the American government can bestow on a citizen.
The Hesburgh International Scholars Experience honors those students like you who reflect Fr. Hesburgh’s vision of spreading the global mission of the Notre Dame to educate young men and women who will use their knowledge to serve the needs of the world.
