Author: Augie Collins

Exams are finally done for the students at Notre Dame, and though there is some celebrating in order, take a quick break to check out this week’s Friday Fives as we venture further into the holiday season. We know it’s been a long week for everyone, so we’ll keep the words to a minimum and let the pictures do the talking. Here are the top five Christmas themed decorations on campus!

5. The Many Snowmen on the Quads

Once the snow starts falling, the students of Notre Dame start crafting snowmen of various sizes on the quads. Some people go for the single towering monolith; others opt for an army of powdery munchkins. Whatever your preference, they’re always a nice reminder that the holiday season is right around the corner.

Carroll Christmas Tree Lighting

4. The Carroll Hall Christmas Decorations

As part of Carroll Hall’s annual Carroll Christmas Dorm Event, the hall is decked inside and out with colorful lights and wrapping paper coating the interior. Like moths to a flame, students from all across campus are drawn to the monstrous tree right outside the hall.

3. The Christmas Tree Inside the Main Building

One of the largest Christmas trees on campus can also be found inside the Main Building! Every year the building is decorated with garlands and ornaments going all the way up to the top of the dome.

Grotto Nativity

2. The Nativity Scene at the Grotto

The largest nativity scene on campus can be seen at the Grotto every holiday season. Though it was previously undetermined as to whether or not the Grotto could get more beautiful, it has now been decided that the answer is a resounding yes.

1. The Dome and Decorations on God Quad

At number one on the list is perhaps the largest Christmas tree decoration of them all; the dome itself! After long nights of studying, walking past the dome on the way to your dorm as the snow falls is enough the brighten anyone’s spirits.
