Sofia Gomez
Sofia Gomez is a sophomore from El Paso, Texas (right along the Juárez, Mexico border) majoring in sociology and film, television and theater with a minor in Latino studies. After undergrad, she plans to become an immigration lawyer with other interests in media entertainment with journalism and beauty art.
On campus she is involved in various organizations that embrace her cultural upbringings even while being far from her home. Sofia is a member of Strike Magazine as a makeup artist, Latinx Student Alliance Network, 1st GenND and the Notre Dame Club of El Paso.
As a Questbridge Match Scholar, Sofia is ultimately humbled to share her journey at ND with other students who come from underrepresented backgrounds, and 1st generation and low income backgrounds. Aside from working with the Undergraduate Admission as a recruitment and visit intern, she also leads campus tours on the weekend as a tour guide for prospective students and their families. Outside the classroom she volunteers at La Casa de Amistad and helps young teens and adults study and prepare for the U.S. citizenship exam.
Sofia’s favorite place on campus would have to be LaFun only because of all the noise and crowds of people reminds her of the busy streets from her hometown.
When Sofia is not doing homework or studying for an exam, you can catch her practicing her makeup skills on her friends for a campus formal event.
You can ask Sofia about what it is like to be a first generation and low income student at ND or absolutely anything else about Notre Dame.
