A Priceless Education You Can Afford

“Need-Blind and Need-Based”

Admission to Notre Dame is “need-blind” for U.S. citizens and permanent residents. This means students are admitted to the University on the basis of their academic and personal records of achievement, not their financial circumstances. Notre Dame is committed to offering a financial aid package that is designed to meet the demonstrated financial need of a student through our need-based aid programs.

needblind

In the 2012-2013 academic year, the University gave over $110 million in need-based scholarships to undergraduate students. Over 48% of all undergraduates receive some form of gift aid from the University. Of the freshmen who enrolled in the fall of 2012 who demonstrated financial need, the average amount of University scholarship awarded was approximately $28,600.

Financial need is the difference between the estimated cost of attendance for the school year and the estimated family contribution. Because several factors in this evaluation are subject to change from one year to the next, this evaluation is made annually for each student who applies for financial aid.  Our Net Price Calculator tool may be helpful in understanding your financing options.

Average Direct Cost for 2013-2014

Tuition and Fees $44,605
Room and Board $12,512
Total Direct Cost: $57,117

In addition to the direct cost, each student should plan for the cost of books, supplies, transportation, and personal expenses.  Annual increases should be anticipated.
