  • Major(s): Sociology; Film, Television, and Theatre
  • Minor(s): Latino Studies, Digital Marketing
  • Hometown: El Paso, TX

Sofia Gomez is a Junior from El Paso, Texas (right along the Juárez, Mexico border), with majors in sociology and film, with minors in Latino studies and digital marketing on a pre-law track.

On campus, she is involved in organizations that embrace her cultural upbringings. Sofia is co-Director of Citizenship Classes at La Casa de Amistad with ND CASH (Community Alliance to Serve Hispanics), helping young teens and adults study and prepare for the U.S. citizenship exam, outreach coordinator of the Notre Dame Questbridge chapter, a member of Latinx Student Alliance Network, and a member of the Notre Dame Club of El Paso.

Sofia is a National Questbridge College Match Scholar, Transformational Leaders Program (TLP) Scholar, and Multicultural Programs and Services (MSPS) Scholar. As a Questbridge Scholar, Sofia is ultimately humbled to share her journey at ND with other students who come from underrepresented backgrounds, and first-generation and low-income backgrounds.

Aside from working with the Undergraduate Admission as a Recruitment and Visit Intern, she also leads campus tours on the weekend as a tour guide for prospective students and their families.

Sofia’s favorite place on campus would have to be Lafun only because of all the noise and crowds of people reminds her of the busy streets from her hometown.

When Sofia is not doing homework or studying for an exam, you can catch her practicing her make-up skills on her friends for a campus formal event.

During Summer 2023, Sofia participated in two summer programs including the Brazil and Rome FTT program.

You can ask Sofia about what it is like to be a FGLI student at ND, how to get involved on campus, study abroad or absolutely anything else about Notre Dame.
