Life of a Transfer

Transferring schools is like starting college over again. It’s scary and intimidating. You think about everything going wrong all the time. What if I don’t have any friends? What if I don’t do well in my classes? Where is DPAC? What is DPAC?

As a transfer student, I can say that transferring is not easy but it’s completely worth it.

When you receive your acceptance letter, it all becomes surreal. You are finally a Notre Dame student. You get to pick your classes, know what dorm you’re in, and realize once again what it means to be a poor college student when you buy your books.

When you arrive on campus, your excitement turns into hesitation. You see everyone with their friends running around a campus that you’re on for the first time. You think to yourself, “Do I even remember how to make friends?”

Making friends does take time but before you know it, you will have so many friends that you will barely be able to keep track of them. Not only will you have your transfer friends, but you will also have new friends from your dorm and classes. You just need to make sure that you are constantly putting yourself out there even when you think nothing you do is working. Never give up on your determination to make new friends.

If you are having a hard time making friends, just like I did, do not worry. Other transfers know what you’re going through and will always be there for you.

When it comes to doing well in classes, you will do well no matter what. Before you transferred, I can assume that your grades meant everything to you just as they did to me. Every point counted and getting all A’s was a must. As long as you keep up your work ethic from your past college, you will be able to succeed because you have already been working hard and have a good work ethic when it comes to getting your assignments done. Class is class wherever you are going to school; it just depends on the attitude you have when you start a new school.

Transferring is hard but it is worth it. When deciding if you should transfer or not, seriously think about doing so because it can change your life in so many incredible ways.
