Irasema 1

Hey friends! My name is Irasema Hernandez Trujillo! This is my first year working as a New Media intern for ND Admissions, and I am super thrilled to make it part of my ND journey!

A little bit about me: I am originally from Benito Juárez Michoacán, Mexico! Michoacán is known for its monarchs who travel across the world and always make it back to their homeland in El Rosario municipality of Ocampo! To my townspeople and me, they represent strength, resilience, and perseverance - three things I bring with me to Notre Dame! I am part of the Class of 2024, pursuing an undergraduate degree in American Studies and a Supplemental Major in Global Affairs with a concentration in Civil and Human Rights! I am also minoring in Latino Studies and am hoping to squeeze in the Real Estate minor!

I am a Balfour-Hesburgh Scholar living in Ryan Hall and am involved in many clubs and activities! I serve as the Vice President of LatinX Student Alliance (LSA) - the largest Latino Club on campus! I am one of the co-leads in the club Student Policy Network where my project is advocating for the driving privilege card rights of undocumented immigrants in Indiana! I am also a department member in Notre Dame’s Student Government, where I serve on the University Policy and Student Empower teams to make our school a more inclusive and safe space for all! In addition, I am on the board for the Latino-first Year Retreat with campus ministry, where I work with Latino first-years to help them transition in our new Notre Dame familia! During my free time, I volunteer for the National Immigrant Justice Center, where I interpret for asylum seekers, and La Casa de Amistad, where I help with their citizenship class! Aside from those activities, I dance for Baile Folklorico and participate in Notre Dame Women’s Boxing Club

These are just a few of the MANY opportunities that Notre Dame has to offer! There are so many ways to get involved and make a difference!! I am so very grateful to be here and to receive an education that goes beyond academics. Very thrilled to share more throughout this year with you all!! GO IRISH!
