Author: Don Bishop

As of March 28, 2015, the University of Notre Dame has admitted 3,577 students out of a total pool of 18,156 applicants. These admitted students attend 2,036 high schools across the globe. In addition, another 800 are expected to remain active on the waitlist. The University expects to enroll a first-year class of 2,010 students.

The academic and personal profile is the highest achieved by a Notre Dame admitted class.

Don Bishop, Associate Vice President of Undergraduate Enrollment, notes, “This year our admitted pool continues the trend of being more global and diverse than any previous year. The admitted students surpassed the previous exceptional academic records with even higher levels of achievement in leadership and service. We are inspired and impressed with the students who aspire to join the Notre Dame family.”

The profile of the typical admitted student places them among the top 1% in the nation in their high school class performance and/or national test scores. Notre Dame practices a holistic admission process that evaluates students for their exceptional intellectual promise, creativity, leadership, and sense of service to others.

Notre Dame, among the nation’s top 20 national research universities, enrolls arguably the most geographically diverse student body in the United States: 23% of admits are from the East Coast, 12% Southeast/South, 15% Midwest, 20% Central Midwest, 23% West/Southwest, and 7% outside of the U.S.

The typical incoming first-year student travels about 900 miles to start their career at Notre Dame.

The incoming class will be diverse in other ways as well.  About 10% of the enrolling class will be children whose parents did not complete a college degree, while 24% of the enrolling class will be comprised of legacies: students that are sons/daughters of Notre Dame alumni.  We also anticipate that 31% of the entering class will be U.S. students of color or international students.

The academic profile of the admitted class continues to rate among the top 15 in the nation for national research universities. The percentage of admitted students enrolling has ranked among the top 10 in the nation. More than half of the incoming class will receive scholarship aid from Notre Dame’s endowment which ranks 8th in the nation among the top 20 private national research universities.
