College of Science Transfer Requirements
Applicants planning to transfer into the College of Science must apply to a specific major within the college. Once a transfer student has been successfully admitted to the college and a major, changes to a student's major are not typically granted. Transfer students must take the courses appropriate for the curriculum of the major to which they were admitted for at least one semester.
Most years, the College of Science does not have seats available for students applying to major in Neuroscience and Behavior.
In addition to making progress in the University’s Core Curriculum, the College of Science requires the following courses be completed in the first year:
- Calculus I
- Calculus II
- General Chemistry I w/ lab
- General Chemistry II w/ lab or Organic Chemistry I w/ lab
- English Composition
For Life Sciences majors (Biology, Neuroscience and Behavior, Science Preprofessional Studies, Biochemistry) the completion of Organic Chemistry 1 puts transfer students on track with their peers. Not completing Organic Chemistry 1 before matriculating to Notre Dame will put transfer students off track and reduce the chances of studying abroad or applying to health professions schools at the end of the Junior year.
Please note, the following majors have more specific guidelines on first-year course requirements:
ACMS
- Physics I w/ lab
- Physics II w/ lab
Biological Sciences

- Biology II w/ lab
Environmental Sciences

For more information about the individual departments within the College of Science, please refer to the College's list of majors and programs.
The College of Science only admits transfer students as sophomores. Students who have completed first-year coursework that closely mirrors Notre Dame's first-year coursework will be more competitive in the transfer admissions process. Please be aware that the College ofScience does not favor substituting sophomore courses for those required in the first year.
